In light of the horrific acts of police brutality we saw in the US in 2020, I looked into how black culture has been a massive influence in my life. There are so many genres of music that exist that have not only been inspired by, but invented by black people. There is no doubt that nights out and events wouldn't nearly be the same without the contributions by the black community.
I created the brand 'Rave Makers,' a company that create socks specifically designed to be raved in. Each pair of socks represents a different genre on dance music with heavy black influence: house, disco, jungle and techno, with the colours and patterns of each design acting as a visual representation of what the music might 'look' like. A percentage of profits made from Rave Makers were to be donated to 'Rave Reparations': a company based in New York, ran by a duo who are striving to make it safer and easier for black people to attend music events.
